Community Organizer Manager

Network for Developing Conscious Communities works towards developing a Black economy in which all people participate and prosper. We are a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation offering professional services in cooperative business development organizing, strengthening the Black community development ecosystem, and evaluating the need for racial equity matters.

We’re seeking an experienced Community Organizer Manager to manage our growing community operations. The Community Organizer Manager will help develop and implement NDCC’s organizational and community strategies, through operations management, program planning, and delivery.  As Network for Developing Conscious Communities is growing, the Community Organizing Manager will have the opportunity to grow personally and professionally as well.

Our organizational purpose is to work “for an economy in which all Black people participate and prosper.” We want to offset the deep financial inequality that our Black community currently suffers. Poverty is a market failure that can be eliminated with the resources already available nationwide. To that end, we organized NDCC to promote the cooperative business model in the Black community. Our theory of change holds that cooperative enterprise creates the economic conditions we seek.

We take a “helping people help themselves” approach to cooperative development. Our support is aimed at giving communities and families greater control over their own economic and social circumstances through jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprises. The result is communities creating and running their own programs, not having a nonprofit run it for them.

NDCC operates through several program areas:

  • Direct technical assistance for cooperatives, including business planning support, organizing and governance training, meeting facilitation, and financial training, and connection to sources of financing.

  • Work under the supervision of the Executive Director to research, design, and pilot small programs and projects
  • Work with Executive Director and a graphic designer to professionally lay out 12-week Black CoopNomics Training curriculum and share materials with other agencies interested in integrating community organizing into their service model.
